The Historical significance of The Great Wall of ChinaIn 1978 UNESCO announced The Great Wall as a World Heritage. The Great Wall is a significant primary source as it is the largest fortification in the world and the only hand built masterpiece that can be seen from space. It is a recognisable symbol of China’s enduring, victorious, powerful and influential dynasties and kingdoms, culture, architectural strategy, citizens and history. The Great Wall is a symbol of china’s dynasties because of the over 20 dynasty’s that built The Great Wall, The Great Wall resembling the Dynasties impression on the purpose and the conquering that happened under The Great Walls construction. The cultural part is due to The Great Wall being built as a means by emperors to preserve their culture by stopping other civilization cultures effecting the Chinese society and furthermore many legends and myths in the ancient Chinese societies where related to The Great Wall, for example, the legend of Meng Jiang Nü weeping over The Great Wall. The architectural strategy throughout The Great Wall displays the Chinese amazing architectural advancement in their technology and their strategy influencing china's adaptions to political contexts. Lastly, the misery and the significant number of people effected in the construction represents in The Great Wall the citizens in the society’s impressions, regard in their civilization and is a significant event. All up this leads me to my conclusion that The Great Wall deeply affected historian’s impressions about The Ancient Chinese society.

The Great Wall wasn’t just used in the ancient civilizations, but comes in common use in the modern Chinese civilization. In 1937 when china was experiencing war against Japan, The Great Wall suffered its grandest failure as a fortification. The Great Wall gave Japan an easy route through the Chinese mountains. 30 years later after this event China condemned the wall in a powerful revolution against its repressive history of servants and powerful emperors. Till the 20th century The Great Wall was never mentioned by the Chinese as one single wall. Showing how throughout the ages, China has changed its impressions of The Great Wall. The Great Wall is still effecting modern civilizations and many to come. This just shows the significance of The Great Wall for it to still effect modern Chinese Civilizations.
